About Me:
What's important? I'm associate director of the NYCWP. I share the TL position with Paul Allison. I'm a New York State certified K-8 teacher with experience teaching 3 - 5 year olds. I've been out of the classroom for a very long time but not away from teaching or education.
I was born in Manhattan, raised in Queens and now live on Long Island which means a long, mostly unpleasant commute to the Bronx to work. I began working in the Bronx so my working life has come full circle.
I'm female, almost a legal senior citizen (reduced transportation, eligible for SS, etc.), of Afro-Caribbean descent, a wife, aunt, sister and friend.
Enough said. If need be I'll add to this later.

100!

I was curious at all the new "faces" on the Tech Friends Ning, so I checked and found that there are now 100 members. Shouldn't there be some sort of celebration? Is this a real milestone?

I guess given that there are about 200 NWP sites this represents less than 1/2 the potential number of TLs or tech teachers that can sign on. But, given that there are probably more than one Tech Friend per site (now I have to go back and check who else from NYCWP is on this site), it really means that less t… Continue

How to keep up

Honestly, I don't know how Kevin and Bonnie and all of you who post regularly to Tech Friends, your own blog and myriad other online spaces keep up. I can barely read all of the information I get via the Internet.

I know some of it is about making choices and you have to leave some things out. But, it seems I'm leaving more out than I'm able to get to.

Oh well, things are moving along and I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with that.

Getting Started - once again

It's been awhile since I posted. I'd like to say it is because I've been so busy but that isn't really the truth. I haven't gotten into the consistently blogging thing.

So, my next entry is how the tech work for t-cs here in New York has been developing.

We are still using google docs and google groups to share materials and have between meeting discussions. The google groups haven't taken off as well as google docs. Google docs has had a more pragmatic use and is very professional/academic. G… Continue

Are things taking off?

Notice the title is in the form of a question and not a statement. I'm asking because of the two phone calls/email I received from t-cs about readings and/or approaches to leading pd sessions for teachers that are focused on technology. Some of our t-cs are taking the plunge and beginning a more formal conversation about technology at the schools in which they consult.

This is not a first. T-cs have offered sessions on how to use particular communication tools and have worked with individual te… Continue

La Luta Continua

We'll have another tech session for the t-cs this Friday, followed by a Tech Retreat for our teachers on Friday evening and Saturday. We're introducing the t-cs to VoiceThread. It seems so simple and my approach is simple. We'll look at the introductory voicethread video, take some notes and then go play with VoiceThreads.

I've asked t-cs to "bring" some pictures with them that they can use to create a VoiceThread but I will give folks the option of just commenting on existing ones. There are p… Continue

Hi Felicia,
Welcome to the Tech Ning! I guess have been anti social over the last few months. The members of this group has been extremely helpful over the last year in helping. I am finishing my first year as a tech Liaison.

Let me know if I could be of help.

Hi, Felicia,

Nice to meet you.

My son Win lives on City Island and is pursuing his post doc fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. I'm looking forward to coming to NYC in November and after the conference spending some time with him.
