Kevin, I just watched your digital storytelling video. Thank you for the link. It is something I need to move forward on and haven't quite got the motivation to so yet. I think the fear of the unknown is still a hurdle for me. I will get there event…

About Me:
This is my fourth year as the technology liaison for the Appleseed Writing Project. The use of an AWP blog was the first step in getting our teachers to use the READ/WRITE web with their students. In the past year, the Appleseed Writing Project teacher consultants have been introduced to a number of interactive writing opportunities on the Web.
In addition to being the technology liaison for the Appleseed Writing Project, I am the art teacher at an urban elementary school servicing 430 students, grades K-5. I serve as a member of the Quality Improvement Team, the building technology coordinator. and a teacher mentor for new art teachers. Technology is a passion of mine that I share with my art students. I have used digital technology in planning and instruction with my students in a variety of ways including electronic portfolios, video conferencing, and multimedia presentations. This year I am focusing on professional development. I recently accepted a position on the executive board of the Art Education Association of Indiana as the elementary division chair. Since my initial involvement with the National Writing Project in 2005, several opportunities to instruct other teachers how to use interactive technology tools has provided valuable PD experience for me as well as the teachers who attended my sessions.

Hi Barb,

With your work in Technology for the Appleseed Writing Project, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording conducted by Nellie Deutsch on Technology Integration.

Barb,
I started a new blog, for which I will put a widget below. Today's post advertises a COOLEST CLASSROOM CONTEST. Spread the news around if you'd like.

Also, if you want to write for my blog (I have writers from multiple states and 2 countries), you should do so. Just sign up and I will change your status to author.

I watched your T is for Technology video. I can relate to a lot of it. I teach 7th grade English, not Art, and I understand your need to appear competent in front of students. Learning new skills along with them is tricky business. I'm okay modeling that learning is challenging and we have to persevere, but I do like to be able to answer their questions along the way (that's where making my own mistakes comes in handy as you mentioned). Thanks for your post and your encouragement. Aram

A study from Britain by The National Literacy Trust looked at young writers and technology. It's worth a reading. One of the findings that stuck with me -- the idea (again) that writing outside of school is more meaningful to many young people than…
